Description
Songdoctoring, structure feedback before production
Is your song's structure already working?
Before you invest time and money in recording, mixing or mastering: I listen to your demo or rough mix specifically for its structural build and tell you, in writing, concretely and with timestamps, what would make the song even stronger.
What I check
- Song structure: Is the order of intro, verse, chorus, bridge and outro coherent, or does it feel arbitrary?
- Chorus timing: Does the chorus arrive too late or too early, and does it hold the tension until then?
- Chorus strength: Is the chorus memorable enough to stick in the listener's ear?
- Verse length: Does a verse drag on too long before the next part comes in?
- Tension curve: Is there a build-up towards the end, or does the song stay at one level throughout?
- Song length: Is the song overall too long or too short for its genre?
- Hook: Is there a clear, recognisable moment that keeps listeners hooked?
What you get
Not a gut feeling in a couple of sentences, but concrete, actionable suggestions with timestamps, right at the point in the song they refer to.
- Schriftliches Feedback zum strukturellen Aufbau, mit Zeitstempeln (z. B. “bei 1:20 Strophe kürzen”, “Bridge fehlt, hier wäre eine gute Stelle”)
- Concrete, actionable suggestions instead of general criticism
- Assessment of the chorus, tension curve, song length and hook
- Optional: a short voice memo in addition to the written feedback
How it works
- Send in your demo: You enter the link to your demo or rough mix, optionally with notes on where you are unsure.
- I listen for structure: I listen to your song specifically for its structure, not for mix or mastering quality.
- Receive your feedback: You get your written feedback with timestamps by email within 2 to 4 business days, or within 48 hours with the express option.
- Optional listen: If you booked the voice memo, you additionally get a short voice message with the most important impressions.
Important note, difference from related services: Songdoctoring comes before production and deals exclusively with the structural build-up of your demo or rough mix. If it is only about your lyrics, the Lyric Feedback is the right choice. If your song is already fully produced and you want to know how the mix, vocals and mastering impression come across, the Song Analysis with Feedback is the right service. If your finished master is about to be released and you want it technically checked for LUFS, clipping and stereo image, the Release-Ready-Check is the right one. Many book Songdoctoring first to sort out the structure, then the right service for lyrics, mix or release approval.
What is not included
- No assessment of mix or mastering quality: that is what the song analysis with feedback is for.
- No feedback on lyrics or on rhyme and rhythm: that is what the lyric feedback is for.
- No technical release audit (LUFS, clipping, stereo image): that is what the Release-Ready-Check is for.
- No editing or implementation: I give you feedback, implementing the suggestions (re-recording, restructuring) is something you do yourself or book separately.
Frequently asked questions about Songdoctoring
How is Songdoctoring different from the song analysis?
The song analysis assesses the content of an already fully produced song, focusing on mix, vocals and mastering impression. Songdoctoring comes before that: it is exclusively about the structural build-up of a demo or rough mix, before any production has even happened. Many book Songdoctoring before production and the song analysis afterwards.
Does my song already need to be fully produced?
No, quite the opposite. Songdoctoring is designed for exactly this stage: a demo or rough mix is completely sufficient, even if the mix and sound are not finished yet. It is exclusively about the structure, not the sound quality.
Do you also listen to the mix or the vocal performance?
Only in passing, where it affects the structure. The focus is deliberately on the build-up: order of the parts, chorus timing, tension curve, song length and hook. For an assessment of mix and vocals, there is the separate song analysis.
In what form do I get the feedback?
How long does the feedback take?
Normally 2 to 4 business days. With the express add-on you receive your written feedback within 48 hours.
What format should I send my song in?
The easiest way is a shared link to your demo or rough mix, for example via Google Drive, Dropbox or WeTransfer. A simple phone rough mix is completely sufficient for assessing the structure.
